Welcome to uncle Joni's travel stories
The site has a new address now. Instead of the old address in IP-format you can now access the page using http://milton.jumpingcrab.com/travel_stories and feel free to check out the complete gallery of my holiday pictures here.
I wrote a longish story about our active day in Krabi, Thailand. Read it here.
I've been on a roll the last couple of days with the trip report for Asia. I think I've written about one third now. Send me some feedback if you have time and/or interest to read it. Don't hesitate to ask me if you want to know more details about something!
I've added some new features to the page again. Unfortunately you can't see many of them as they are password-protected. I'd appreciate any bug reports if you notice something out of ordinary, especially with the commenting system. Thanks in advance.
I wrote a new page for the Asia-section too. Already 6 / 37 done! I'll be done with it one day :)! I want to add something from this year's trip to Spain and the Pyrenees and at least a short story about the wonders of Montenegro from 2009. Over and out for a while.
P.S. Don't forget to comment!
I wrote one more page about Asia and now the news page is automatically divided to multiple pages. I can also add news from a browser so perhaps in the future you'll get more real time updates when I'm travelling.
I've written a few new pages for Asia. I hope the report will be complete one day! The annoying bug which always took you on top of the page when you clicked a thumbnail is fixed now. Thanks to Julia for mentioning it. Thanks to my mother too for pointing out some spelling errors and grammar mistakes. Please report any bugs, spelling errors, dead links, weird behaviour or any other mistakes you can find so I can fix them. Thanks for reading!
More code! Check the navigation menu on the left and you might notice a few new features. Now you can sign up and add comments with your nick without having to type in your name everytime along with the spam control code. Maybe I'll add some new features in the future which require signing up too. This will be the new Facebook. Or not. Ah, I almost forgot. Remember to tell me about any bugs you encounter and all other feedback is very welcome too! I will be writing more about Asia whenever I find time for it. Stay tuned!
I've been coding like a madman for the last couple of days and at the bottom of each page you can admire the results. You can add comments now! Go and comment :p. If you feel like adding a comment, there's a simple spam stopper in place. Just check your lucky number and copy the three digits from the middle to the box below and you're ready to go. To comments.
An example: you get number 123456789. The three digits in the center are: 456. So 456 is the number you have to type in the box. Clear enough? :)
Now that was fast! I'm done with the trip report for Ukraine. Go and read it!
Greetings to my loyal readers! It's been too long since I've updated this page but now the time has come. I started working on the trip report from Ukraine. Feel free to check the first pages already. More is coming!
Argh, twelve plus two hours in a bus again! Unfortunately we didn't have more time for Luang Prabang and we had to take a bus back to Vientiane and Nong Khai. The first bus trip was so horrible that we decided to search for a flight back to Bangkok. Of course the prices were too high (100 euros per person) so we ended up sitting in a bus once again.
Luang Prabang was a nice small town in the middle of nowhere and accommodation was cheap. We had the best room so far for only six euros a night. We spent the first day by walking around and buying souvenirs and on the second day we went to ride an elephant and to check the waterfalls nearby. Elephant riding was relaxing but too short but the waterfalls really got us by surprise. For once the pictures we saw beforehand were nothing compared to reality and swimming in the coldish stream was a dream come true after a sweaty day on the elephant. Too bad we only had two hours there before we had to come back to catch the bus.
The sceneries around Luang Prabang were absolutely spectacular but I didn't get any good pictures because of the driving on curvy roads. Maybe one day we'll go back there to take those pictures!
We just crossed the border from Laos to Thailand and are waiting for our train to the ancient old capital of Siam, Ayutthaya. That will be our last stop before Bangkok. On 3rd of September we'll fly back to Kiev and I'll continue to Helsinki via Riga.
P.S. There are some more pictures now: Asia 2010 pictures

Let's hope the possibility for editing comments will make people comment more as they don't have to be afraid of mistakes anymore :).
