I flew to Texas in August to spend two weeks there. "What is this madness?!" you might ask, and I wouldn't blame you. ID Software has arranged an event called QuakeCon every year for the last 20 years in Dallas, Texas. This year they decided to give us a Quakeworld 2on2 tournament for Quake's 20th birthday with a prize pool of $25000. It was a no-brainer to go :).
The tournament went according to plan and we won the grand final 2-0 with my Norwegian teammate Rikoll. It was great to meet many old and new faces of Quake there in Dallas and to see the enthusiasm of theirs towards the game we all love.
After spending the first week with everything Quake-related it was time to check what Texas had to offer during the next week. Texas surprised me positively, as I expected to see mostly dry deserts, a couple of big cities and oil drills. In the end we saw those, but also rain forests(!), beaches, real modern cowboy culture and a lot more. I might write a short trip report about Texas a bit later. Perhaps in October :).
