Ukraine 2010 trip report - Sudak

It's unbelievable how many tourists there are in Sudak. It feels like every Ukrainian and Russian tourist goes there in the summer. The main street is so full of people that it slows walking down to snailspeed. Usually travellers dislike places with a lot of tourists but somehow Sudak has a special feeling to it. With tourists come also many different attractions: you can find almost anything you want to eat, there are many different activities and accommodation is plentiful. Sudak is also the only place in Ukraine where I've seen pole dancers on the street.

During our stay in Sudak Inna bought a snorkel and we tried to snorkel a bit. Quite often the waves were way too big for snorkeling so sometimes we just played with the waves or walked on the shore. One day we visited a tiny national park of some kind right next to, or even in, Sudak. The national park had some beautiful rock climbing routes in it and I wish to try them one day. The path through the park would have ultimately led to another small village, but we decided not to walk there and turned back to Sudak. The path was quite challenging, especially with sandals. One couple, who were coming from the other village, asked us if it's still a long way to go to Sudak and if the route will get any easier :). Luckily for them they were already quite close to Sudak.

Snorkeling in the Black Sea doesn't offer anything spectacular, but it can still be enjoyable. I saw a nice crab the size of my palm. It was eating something with it's hand and knocking the rocks around. The way I was able to hear the knocks really easily was interesting.

Inna practicing how to use her new snorkel :).

After four days in Sudak we travelled back to Inna's home in Krivoy Rog. Inna read for her entrance exams for the next ten days and I was writing the trip report from Morocco, working out with Inna's little brother and planning our trip to Asia.

Sudak and Sevastopol are the most beautiful places in Crimea, in my opinion :)
