No one complained about our very illegal camp in the middle of the night and in the morning we were finally ready to start hiking. Our main goals were to "climb" at least one via ferrata route and get to the summit of Triglav. Other than that the plan was more or less open as we didn't quite know how long certain paths marked on our map would take or how difficult they would be with our relatively heavy backpacks with food for four days in them. We started off by climbing a steep trail that took us 700 altitude meters higher and to a trail that passes the famous seven lakes. The weather wasn't as bad as we had feared but there was some rain nevertheless. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was that it was quite cloudy or foggy and we couldn't see the scenery as well as we would have liked.

Harri spotted this fascinating worm(?) on the ground on the first morning of our trip.

Things weren't all that bad though because we got to see some animals, which is one of the biggest reasons why I like mountain regions so much. First we saw some marmots, then some totally black salamanders and finally I got a chance to take photos of a small herd of Ibex as well! I approached the herd slowly and as quietly as I could, but soon I realized that it wasn't perhaps necessary as one brave Ibex soul walked straight towards to show off its big antlers.

I'm really happy to have seen this herd of Ibex! They made it really easy to get good photos too!

The fattest marmot I've ever seen :)

It was already getting late as we left the Ibex behind and headed towards the next lake and the hut next to it. The view from the hut was stunningly beautiful and the places for our tents weren't all that bad either. Harri, Henkka and Turo wanted to spend some time at the hut before sleeping and when we finally headed back to the tents it was not only pitch black outside but it was snowing as well!

The trip back to our tent was rather slippery and a good short adventure in the dark. I had bought a new tent for this trip (Nordisk Telemark 2 LW) and when we got to it we saw that it didn't seem to handle the weight of the wet snow very well because of the one-arched design of it. Thankfully the snowfall subsided before we fell asleep so we didn't have the clear the tent of snow the whole night!

Little did we know of the weather that was going to hit our tent...
