To Herceg Novi
Having a whole month in a small country like Montenegro gives you a whole new set of opportunities and possibilities compared to a shorter trip. One of these is the lack of schedule. After leaving Kotor we didn't really know where we were going, just somewhere. We took a bus that took us further along the coast of the Adriatic Sea and stepped out somewhere around half way between Kotor and a small town of Risan.
The reason for our stop was a tiny island in the Kotor bay with a small monastery on it. A girl left the bus at the same time with us and amazed us by somehow knowing that I'm from Finland. The girl turned out to be from Estonia and told me that she recognized my accent to be Finnish. I know that my English is far from perfect, but it still puzzles me that she was able to tell that I'm exactly from Finland.
We ended up taking the same small boat with the Estonian girl to the aforementioned island. The island is called Sveti Đorđe, and it's so small that Wikipedia actually calls it an "islet". The monastery from the 12th century is also small but has a nice feeling to it. With the sea so close and mountains all around it sure was a great place for spending some extra time we definitely had.
Before evening we reached the small town of Risan and pitched our tent somewhere in the bushes not far from the road. A beach nearby was kind enough to provide us with a shower even! There wasn't much to see in Risan so it was an easy decision to start moving early towards Herceg Novi, a city again a bit further along the coastline. In Herceg Novi we again stayed in our tent, but this time it was in a camping area a couple of kilometers away from the city. The camping area surely wasn't the cleanest one around, but it worked for us. The city appeared to be more beautiful and interesting than we had expected, and it was a good place for planning our next destinations.
