Putting the scooter to a test

Ready for new adventures!

Before sleeping we had big plans to wake up early and go snorkeling right after but in the morning we were too sleepy to do such a thing. We woke up at ten or eleven o'clock instead but went to snorkel anyway. Once again the beach in front of our bungalow was really shallow, which made snorkeling almost impossible. Eventually I found deeper places but the water was too dark to enjoy the experience. If you come to Thailand to snorkel you should really head for Ko Tao instead of Ko Phangan or Ko Samui.

After swimming and snorkeling we drove to the south eastern part of Ko Phangan. I had read from a tourist guide that only experienced drivers should go there because of the big hills on the way. And big they were indeed! Our poor moped was really struggling with them and each time we only barely made it to the top. As a small bonus our heroic scooter started making an awful squealing sound on the way back and the back break didn't work almost at all.

The end of the tough road

Our next destination was the 'untouched' north east. The roads leading to this part of the island weren't ready yet and we had to drive about ten kilometers on unpaved roads. Unpaved - fine, but the roads also featured an unimaginable amount of grooves and furrows of different sizes and shapes. The moped of ours wasn't really designed for this and I think we spent at least an hour to pass those ten kilometers.

Finally things started to look better as we reached a small village in the far end of the island. There wasn't much there but at least a shop or two and a small hotel on the beach. I really wonder how the customers get there, but probably by smaller boats. The beach was really beautiful with rocky hills covered in palm trees surrounding it on each side and the setting sun reflecting from the sea. The water was too murky for snorkeling but it was relaxing and refreshing to just swim there for a while after the long and exhausting drive.

On the way back it was time to buy some new exotic fruits again. This time we bought green and yellow mangos, mini bananas and a custard apple. The bananas tasted like bananas usually taste, mangos were really tasty too but I didn't fancy the custard apple that much. It wasn't bad but definitely not my favourite. It seemed like Inna liked it more, just like with guava.

This island wasn't full of tourists at all and it was a perfect place for relaxing! I wish we could have had more free time there :)
